District 13 (original title: Banlieue 13)
Look, no wires!
If you liked the first big action scene of Casino Royale (the 2006 Bond film, not the David Niven spoof), then you'll probably like this film. The founder of parkour stars (David Belle, above), and is a surprisingly good actor. There are good bad guys, a competing gun-fu scene with the film's co-star, and lots of French hip-hop music (which I find difficult to take seriously). The plot's a basic one, but it does have a unexpected whiff of social responsibilitys.

The Shoebox Project
The only Harry Potter stuff I will ever read.
It's the only HP fanfic to survive the Great Post-Deathly Hollows Purge (how I hated that book). However, this series is innovative and exceptionally well-written. Since it centers on the Maurader's time at Hogwarts, those less familiar with HP may also enjoy it. (However, those who hate slash may want to stop reading before the end.) I find it difficult to navigate the LiveJournal site; the pdf version is a better choice when starting out.
